Patient's Charter

The Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Centre is established with the purpose of providing high quality surgical service to patients with upper gastrointestinal diseases. Combined with advanced technology and a dedicated team of surgeon and nurses experienced in endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, the Centre aims to treat our patients with minimal trauma and faster recovery.

Endoscopic surgery is performed through the natural body openings or small skin incisions. Instead of big incisions required in conventional surgeries, various miniature instruments can be inserted through the endoscope or small incisions to perform the maneuvers necessary for the operation. Endoscopic procedures result in less tissue trauma, less or even no scarring (woundless), less pain, shorter hospital stay and faster recovery.

Early esophageal cancer before staining Early esophageal cancer after chromoendoscopy Woundless Endoscopic Mucosal Resection Eight weeks after operation with no recurrence

Other than less postoperative wound pain, the resulting small scars can be hidden in less obvious sites, and surgical wound infections and intestinal adhesives are much less common in minimally invasive surgery.

Obvious scarring after conventional gastrectomy Small scarring after laparoscopic gastrectomy
